two steps into the past
history
It was 1985 when the young Giuseppe Barone , not yet a chef, decided with the help of his mother and wife to open a restaurant in upper Modica. In that building in via Nativo, Giuseppe finds an old wooden sign hidden in a corner of a room bearing a name: Fattoria delle Torri. So he decides …
... that that will be the name of his restaurant and from that moment on it will never change again.
Thus begins the adventure, the reins of the kitchen are entrusted to mother Ignazia, while the dining room is run by Giuseppe and his wife Maria. A simple cuisine but with a touch of class, this is the philosophy of Fattoria delle Torri; but soon the hunger for knowledge and study lead Giuseppe to enter the kitchen where he begins to experiment on the concept of cooking. The level rises and Fattoria delle Torri begins to be a point of reference in the Sicilian gastronomic panorama; from the choice of raw materials, to the selection of the mise en place with handmade glass plates, the reputation of the restaurant and of Giuseppe Barone grow as well as the public; therefore, the choice to move to low Modica, in a building from the 1600s. This transition came to a halt in 1997 when Mrs. Ignazia passed away. A difficult year in which he employs all his strength in the “Fattoria” project, so that in '98 the Chef Barone inaugurates the new restaurant. In a 17th century building that had been abandoned for a long time, Fattoria delle Torri reopens; in the new premises and with its reputation as a top restaurant, Fattoria becomes a point of reference not only for catering, but also for young chefs who want to learn a new style of cooking. Thus, Fattoria delle Torri survived for 35 years before the Chef's daughters, Carla and Francesca, took over the business, bringing a breath of young air but always with an extraordinary attachment to traditions.
